Marino Darsa. Lo Shakespeare croato

From the treasury of Croatian and European literary and cultural heritage.

LA MOSTRA

Everything passes and there is time for everything, but true memory lingers in books, the living steps of history
(accademico Josip Bratulić)

A review that, through invaluable works, including some unique specimens in the world, aims to highlight in particular the work of Marin Držić/Marino Darsa, the most important Croatian playwright in history.

Born in Ragusa in 1508, died in Venice in 1567, Marino Darsa represents to Croatians what Shakespeare is to the English, Dante to the Italians, Cervantes to the Spanish. And it is precisely the Braidense Library, thanks to a multi-year project, that now offers the opportunity to exhibit the only printed volumes of his life, all printed in Venice.

The review, curated by Prof. Katja Bakija of the University of Dubrovnik, presents works that are the result of great synergy and passion and evidence of the cultural friendship that unites and has united, especially in the Renaissance period, the two sides of the Adriatic.

Indeed, the books on display testify to the richness of Croatian literature and language, and the exhibition itself is a confirmation of the friendship, cooperation and interpenetration of cultures. The synergy of Italian institutions, in particular the Braidense National Library and Croatian institutions, the City of Dubrovnik, the Cultural Institution Casa di Marino Darsa, and the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, is a contribution to the promotion of the common cultural heritage and a commitment to future bridges between the two cities, Dubrovnik and Milan, two Adriatic coasts and two neighboring and friendly countries, Italy and Croatia.
