How to get there

Via Brera 28, Milan (Italy)

Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense is located in the heart of the Brera area, inside the palace of the same name, where the Pinacoteca and Accademia are also located.
 

From the main entrance at 28 Via Brera, cross the courtyard and continue down the corridor in front of the entrance; the grand staircase is at the far left.
 

Two other entrances are located on Fiori Oscuri Street:
at No. 2, by elevator access for the disabled (in the round turret visible on the left of the courtyard; please buzz the doorbell)
at No. 4, through the driveway courtyard; cross the courtyard and enter the hallway in front of the driveway; the access staircase is in the corridor on the right, just past the columns.
 

MM 3, Montenapoleone stop.
Continue along Via Monte di Pietà, on the right cross Via Brera, to be walked to the Brera Palace on the right at the end of the street.
Alternatively, walk along Via Borgonuovo and turn left onto Via Fiori Oscuri; it can be accessed from the courtyard of No. 4.

MM 2, Lanza stop,
continue along Via Tivoli and Via Pontaccio, turn right onto Via Brera.

Autobus 61, Brasilia direction, Pontaccio-Solferino stop, take via Brera to the left.

Accesso and registration

SIGN UP FOR LIBRARY SERVICES

ACCESS

 
Italian and foreign users who are sixteen years of age or older and for whom a specific exclusion order has not been issued are eligible to use the library.

 
In order to gain access to the library, you must have a valid photo ID and you must leave your bags and backpacks in the lockers (activated with 1 euro, which will be returned when the locker is emptied) located halfway up the ramp of the first access staircase.

 
Instead, Library membership is required to use reference and lending services.

REGISTRATION

For in-house reference services, you must pre-register by filling out the online form, send an email to [email protected] with a valid ID attached and wait for confirmation of registration from the reception office.

Alternatively, after completing the online form, you may complete the registration by coming directly to the Library.

For lending services you must follow the directions for registering for reference services at the Library and then go to the Library, with your ID and a passport photo, to complete the registration with the issuance of a card.
Residents of Lombardy, over 18 years of age, and people temporarily domiciled in Milan and province for study or work purposes are eligible for the lending service.

All publishing output must be delivered within sixty days after first distribution with the exception of periodicals for which there are exceptions to be determined with the administration. It is recommended that packages and parcels be marked, “Out-of-commerce specimens for legal deposit for the purposes of Law No. 106 of April 15, 2004” We kindly ask that packages be of contained size and weight.
Shipments must OBVIOUSLY contain a list in duplicate on which must appear:
• the publisher’s data, in particular: telephone, e-mail address and fax number of the person to be contacted in case of communications.
• the list of what has been sent

Please note that only after the documents delivered have been checked will a duly signed copy of the list be returned by fax or e.mail, which will constitute a receipt and must therefore be kept by the person concerned as proof of delivery.

User licenses. Open data

Data that the Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense makes available to users in compliance with the provisions of Article 9 of Law No. 221 of December 17, 2012, which amends Articles 52 and 68 of the Digital Administration Code (Legislative Decree No. 82 of March 7, 2005).

Open Data, commonly referred to by the English term Open Data, is defined according to the definition provided by the Open Data Manual, a document prepared by the Open Knowledge Foundation as “data that can be freely used, reused and redistributed, with the sole limitation – at most – of requesting author attribution and redistribution in the same way (i.e., without changes being made).”

Downloadable data from this site can be used for any purpose, personal or commercial, in order to better understand the world of cultural heritage and create innovative services.

The publication of the datasets listed represents the first step in a strategy that aims to make available and reusable the information heritage held by MiBAC and its territorial institutes in order to promote a model of “open government” that, by intensifying the collaboration between public and private, renews the mutual relationship of trust.
