Adolescence is often seen and treated as if it were-in the words of French sociologist and anthropologist Marc Augé-a “nonplace.” Assimilated to childhood or adulthood, depending on circumstances and usefulness, adolescence is never accorded its own “status.”
It is no coincidence that the senile age is euphemistically referred to as the “third age” and not the “fourth age” as would be logical if adolescence (like childhood and adulthood) also had its own recognized space. Starting from this evidence, “Adolescenza Nonluogo” has provided the cue for the association Laboratorio Adolescenza – of which Maurizio Tucci is founder and president – to propose to the schools of Milan a path of work aimed at soliciting students to reflect on what they think are the “rights” denied to adolescence, but also the “duties” that an adolescent, as a full citizen, should feel he or she has towards the social contexts, starting with the family, in which he or she lives.
