The exhibition, curated by Bettina Mottura, Simona Gallo, and Marina Zetti, was organized in collaboration between the Pinacoteca di Brera and the University of Milan, Department of Languages, Literature, Culture, and Media, aims to share with the public for the first time the rich experience of study, reading, and translation of China by sinologist Edoarda Masi, librarian at the Braidense from 1961 to 1973, through direct comparison with her priceless legacy preserved in the Braidense Library, consisting of over 2,000 volumes.

Edoarda Masi’s greatest contribution to mutual understanding between Italy and China was her literary work, both collecting and translating masterpieces of classical Chinese literature, such as The Dream of the Red Chamber, and modern literature, including the works of Lu Xun.
